I have just finished reading ‘The War of Art‘ by Steven Pressfield, the author of  ‘The Legend of Bagger Vance‘, and thought I should write a few words on it.

In a nutshell, it is a book about overcoming your own personal enemy, ‘resistance’, from what it is to where it derives from. The book is written in a flowing, poetic kind of license, but every so often comes crashing down into colloquial speak, which is apt and makes the text more human.

Personally, I found it a great and easy read and loved the romanticism of the muses and suchlike. Your going to have to read it to find out what I am on about ;p

I have just sent a copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad for Teens: Money – What You Don’t Learn in School to my lil brother. He is only 15 and I hope he will get something out of it.

He is a smart kid, well he is about 5 inches taller than me so I should really call him a young man. He is also pretty entrepreneuristic too, so I hope it helps him forward.

I have given him a condition that he has to write me one or two paragraphs on what he thinks about the book, so we shall find out!! (I’ll put his thoughts on here if he doesn’t mind)

After winning the book, ‘Increase Your Financial IQ‘, at the RichDad Education 3-day seminar I went to, I have finally got my butt into gear to start reading it!

Again, Mr.Kiyosaki hits you with some truths… that if you had thought about it properly, you could have figured out yourself. But the joyful bit about RichDad is that there is always a full explanation about all that is said. The books starts with the 1971 change from the Gold standard to the Dollar standard. From what I gather, that means that instead of all money being backed by ‘hard’ gold, it is solely backed by the cash in the system…. meaning if more money is needed it can be printed essentially.

Mr. Kiyosaki then explains an old method that the Romans used to use… It’s called ‘clipping’. Where money loses value over time… (the roman government would shave the edges of coins so they used less gold) . Therefore meaning that when the government dispenses it, it is at its highest value, it has its greatest ‘worth’ and as we get it, it becomes less and less valuable. In modern times they call this phenomenon ‘inflation’. The bit here that makes sense when you look at it is that, it is not the general prices increasing or ‘inflating’, it is the devaluation of the currency that is occuring, which it is designed to do! So, saving, in modern times, is possibly stupid. He then explains that ‘currency’ comes from the word ‘current’ like in electricity.. to keep its value it needs to keep moving.

If you still haven’t seen or read a RichDad book, I emplore you to do so. They are available from any good bookstore or from the4thmarketeer bookstore, on your left.
