Mahatma Ghandi is renowned the world over for his principles, gall and dignity under fire. By using non-violence and mass civil disobedience the man led many a conquest against his assailants, most notably leading India to her independence in 1947.
Not only being one of the world’s appearingly least likely revolutionaries he was also a great philosopher who took on the most modern of adversaries whilst living in a simple sustainable community, wearing traditional Indian robery on a vegetarian diet.
His teachings and wisdom have had a great effect on millions of people the world over. So many quotes of his have been so beautifully annunciated one can only revel in their clarity, my favourite of which is ‘Become the change you wish to see‘.
When taking a minute to really understand the words and phrasing, you soon begin to realise that such a seemingly innocent, softly worded sentence is in fact an enormous call to action, a challenge of such magnitude that most people shy away from it day and day out.
We all have our own vision of how we would like our micro and macro lives to be, the action to take time to envision it being so ineptly named ‘daydreaming’. Many people speak about envisioning how you want to be and how you want to live and becoming that person today. This again follows in the light of what the ‘Great Soul’ (translation of Mahatma from Sanskrit) is on about.
In my opinion there is far too much chess being played in the lives of modern men and women. I know myself that I am always viewing and trying to understand what the consequenses of my actions may be. I am very much one who does not want to negatively affect anyone in any way, but sometimes you have no choice if you want to follow the path that you believe in your heart to be the way that is best for all, for fulfilment of your personal, social and community desires.
The problem with the industry/community that I have chosen to become a part is that it is so frustrating when you see others consciously not become the change they wish to see. Thing is, you can never force this type of change on anyone, it has to come from within themselves and only then can you help them nurture it.
The truth behind the matter is that more often than not we believe many of our problems are a result of external forces, where in realism most can be dealt with, sidestepped and overcome by a change within ourselves. Take a look at this post, ‘Perception‘, for an idea of how pretty much anything can be turned around.. Especially when you look at it form the right angle.
I have said already that there appears to be a bit too much ‘chess’ playing going on, which means that we are being directed through life by external forces. If you want to do something that you wholeheartedly believe in… do it. If you think that you can’t, find a way to. If you align yourself to the things that you hold true, away from others’ opinions you will open up a new side to what you are capable of. It’s not easy, but it is one of the most liberating things in the world, to align yourself to what you believe, to live it, to ‘become the change you wish to see‘.
The world needs people to do this more than ever before. Let’s use the example of what happened a few days ago. Wikipedia shut down it’s english site due to the possibility, and to protest the possibility, of the SOPA Act being passed in Congress. The thing that I find to be weird is that people are all talking about what sweeping powers people will have over others’ websites and content. But remember, this only possible if people recognise that power.
Let’s say you are the CEO of an ISP (Internet Service Provider) and some arm of the Government ‘forces’ you to unplug someone’s website from the internet matrix… you can always refuse. It is only through acquiescence that civil liberties are trampled.. (It also doesn’t help when the enforcing parties carry guns too admittedly). If everyone takes the stance of non-compliance with seemingly over the top legislation what do you have left? Unenforceable legislation, chosen by the people and for the people.
Anyway, I digress…
Only you know what it is that you want to achieve, what lifestyle you want to live and also what ethics you want to abide by to get there. I challenge you to heed the words of the ‘Great Soul’ and ‘become the change that you wish to see’. Change what it is that you do on the inside and manifest the world that you want on the outside.
I have embarked on a mission to do just that, and to help others too and Network Marketing is the only model that I have found that fits my ideals. I earn money by helping others gain their time and financial freedom. Something that I believe still blows the minds of many and hence why they continue to be sceptical.
I just want to tell you now that it is possible should you choose to go after it
This isn’t going to be the first time that someone has written about having a solid base in something that you do. Heck, it is one of the stories in the oldest book in the world, but what I really wanted to share today is the vision of where you are going to aim for from your ‘base’.
The truth is, and Nick will explain this well for you in the video below, we all have a dream. I have written posts about this subject already but one of the largest elements for failure is often one’s lack of ‘belief’. We have been beaten up for so long with the idea of ‘fit the mold and don’t ask questions’, that I know so many people who have the picture of the lifestyle that they want to live, they just don’t believe that they can achieve it.
And it really effs me off
I have studied all kinds of subjects and read all sorts of books about how to succeed and there is one common thread throughout them all. The main ingredient for success is Desire. You must have a desire to succeed; a will to win. (To find out more about motivators and desire read this)
The starting point of all achievement is desire
- Napolean Hill
The thing that I love about Network Marketing is that just as long as you have a dream; a desire to succeed, the industry will take you in. You don’t need any skills, previous experience, nothing. The industry will still take you in. It is the ‘foundation’ that you can spring off to get to where it is that you want to go.
But it won’t get you where you want to go on its own.
In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure
- Bill Cosby
In your quest for success you will be tested left, right and centre. Listen to Bill, he knows what is up. In my opinion, Network Marketing is a lifestyle choice and one should really not think in terms of monetary reward when you first start out. You may have an autoship of $100 a month which you are beginning to get tired if you are not making any money, but this is your foundation. I have a friend who has paid about $100 a month for his autoship for the last few years but it now pays him anything from $20,000 – $50,000 a month back. View your autoship as your education and ‘growth’ fee. You have enrolled in the shool of ‘YOU’.
Ok, maybe that did sound a bit cheesy but you know what I mean.
Take this time and new ‘access’ to the wealth of information that your team and upline are more than likely sharing with you and go to work on YOU. Become the leaner, meaner, more knowledgable and valuable you. Be the beacon for the ones around you that may need a little help to get to where they want to go. Lead the way.
If you have desire you will succeed, every step you take is a footstep closer.
Check out Nick Sarnicola in the video below, he’ll explain a little more about what I am talking about -
I took a couple of hours off a couple of nights ago and sat back and watched a film. I have kinda, in my head, refused to watch this film for quite a few years now, simply because of the title. I’m not the greatest wordsmith but I do try to do my best when it comes to spelling, and this has slowly driven me nuts…
The Pursuit of Happyness
There, I did it… That one little y has had a surprising effect for just one letter, simply in a word. There I have been thinking… In fact, I don’t know what I have been thinking because it is one of the themes of the film.
I did feel a bit of a dick yeah… when I realised…
Anyway, back to the point…
I have been chatting to quite a few people recently about their networking business efforts online. There seems to be quite a bit of negativity out there, people are getting disillusioned and there is an air of ‘quit’ about, which deeply saddens me, and I am going to tell you why… and hopefully it will have an effect on the way that you view what it is that are doing.
This is my call to arms
Can you remember back to the day that you ‘got’ your compensation plan. Not everyone sees it the same way that some do, I know this for a fact because not everyone signs up there and then. What was it that was going through your head?
If you were anything like me, I was like a teenager again on the inside… Ofcourse, trying to be sensible on the outside… You know, show my professionalism and all that, but the truth is we all see a glimpse of who we will become… and it is an amazing feeling. You feel light, dynamic, energetic.
People join their respective companies for a plethora of different reasons, the array of personal motivators is vast, but there is a common thread to them all, the thread of accomplishment, success, strength and the feeling that anything is possible.
I suppose the saying what goes up must come down is a fair assessment of what happens next.
The big problem that I see in network marketing is that the excitement puts the blinkers on reality. Don’t get me wrong, to a certain extent it’s great. Most people at their first network marketing presentation are there because they know that they need some magic and positivety in their life, and also some real income (that or they are a sucker for sales and prospecting technique). For most to be able to put up with much of their working conditions, day in and day out in a JOB, they should really be considered incredibly humble, persevering and patient. But never-the-less, when people begin to realise that their visions of grandeur are going to take a little more effort than they originally thought to accomplish, suddenly all hell breaks loose.
People deflate pretty quickly.
The sad part is that not everyone’s career survives past this point. As I have said before this is really quite tragic due to the fact that that generally means they have given up on their dreams, albeit often temporarily. Truth is, the reward is so magnanimous that if it really was that easy then everyone would succeed all the time.
Rumour has it that it takes 10,000 hours of study to change one’s career path and become professionally competent in a new one. Then it is surely fair to say that it will take 20,000 hours for someone to succeed in a network marketing career that is only half paying attention. I’m not trying to say that I am saintly and always at 100% because I know for a fact that I am often distracted and have a penchant for procrastinating, but I am also not so shy as to forget to factor that in on my perceived success rate.
Try this, everytime you think about quitting, raise your game. Get angry about failure and channel it into your success… You do that and there is no way that you will not get there in the end, it’ll probably be sooner rather than later.
We are in this for some of the biggest and most noble reasons known to man. To help people, provide a better and more ethical existence for all our fellow human beings. We are in this to create lives of abundance for everyone around us, not just for the few. We are in this to grow and help others grow and learn how to extract the best from ourselves. To create more meaning in all that we do.
To become better human beings. For ourselves, for our families and for every other human being.
Just look at what Chris Gardner went through to achieve his dream.
Jim Rohn was known as ‘America’s Foremost Business Philospher’. Unfortunately he passed on in late 2009, but he has left one hell of a legacy for all to tap into.
I was about 19 years old when I started my first business. I sold my car and bought the biggest Transit van you could buy and started moving bands about to gigs and also moved tech equipment during the day. Little did I know though, when listening to a tape given to me by some sales guys that I had met, that Jim Rohn would have such a profound influence on my future.
The guy on the tape, which I was listening to in said van, said something that to this day I have not been able to shift out of the back of my mind.
“Be employed and earn a living, be the employer and earn a fortune”
I only found out about 8 months ago that that man was Jim Rohn…
Now to follow just that mantra is a little bit uncouth, but when you are 19 that is all that you care about.. Money, chicks and good times. It was that short term philosophy that ended up being the downfall of my original one man megacorporation.
A better philosophy to live by, or guideline should I say is something else that Jim said…
“You Don’t Get Paid for the Hour, You Get Paid for the Value You Bring to the Hour”
He had a knack of making things so simple! To increase your means, you can’t increase the amount of hours in a day or week, but you can increase/augment/improve the person that works those hours.
And here is my challenge to you, which goes against the average philosophy of the modern adult. Always be looking to increase your value. I mentioned yesterday about how Donald Trump rebuilt his property empire from scratch, he could only do that because he was valuable. He had cultivated the knowledge of how to do it, which you don’t get from watching 4 hours of TV a day.
Always be looking to move out of your comfort zone and stretch yourself too. The bigger a person you become, the bigger an income you can command, or as I prefer to see it, the more people you can help. If you think that your education stopped when you left school, you are stifling your true potential to achieve anything that you want. If you want to be a business owner you are going to need to change that.
So nicely put, by Mark Twain…
“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education”
What that illustrates to me is the disconnect from traditional schooling and the eternal quest for understanding; for betterment of one’s self.
Once you get past the ‘sales’ and ‘product’ speil in the business arena and really look into what entrepreneurship is all about, you soon find out that the real name of the game is becoming a better entrepreneur, which more-often-than-not means becoming a better person in general too. It is your respective community that will be the pool that will permit you to succeed, but in return you need to bring value to the table, something that is useful to them that they can use… And bring it time and time again. That’s how you succeed. You bring more value to the table and to the hours that you work.
So if you haven’t begun your quest yet… And a quest it is. Always aim to become a bigger and better version of you and focus on what it is that you can do to help others. There is no succeed or fail, there is only progress.
