I don’t know if any of you have seen the film ‘The Matrix’ starring Keanu Reeves? It is a film about how machines have taken over and that the world that we live in is a computer generated realm to keep the minds of humans occupied, whilst humans are the power source for the machines in the real world, kinda like batteries. It’s a great film and possibly the reason why DVD was created!

Anyway, I was chatting to 2 customers on friday night. I had never met them before, but we got on so well from the go that we decided to go for a drink over the road in the pub. Obviously there were the ‘getting to know each other’ questions and the guy, Logan, pulled no punches and was very direct. Tbh, I kinda like that, because meandering chit-chat bores me and I am pretty hard hitting with opening questions too, my favourite being  ‘so what’s the goal?’

As I was recounting my aims and objectives to them, it dawned on me that, to be financially free is akin to exiting the matrix. Being an employee, getting a good grade at school, getting a good job etc, is all wool pulled over our eyes.. It is what we are ‘supposed’ to do. It is working for the system, not necessarily working for yourself. To have a predetermined path laid out for you by someone else, or as we call it ‘a career’, is probably not what would be best for you, given all of the possible options.

The girl, Katherine, was telling me how she wanted to refurbish computers and send them out to schools in Tanzania, where she has been to work before. Ofcourse, I jumped on the idea and tried to route out why she hasn’t started doing it already, to which she had to back down and say that there was no valid reason. This is where my epiphany came! Once you have ‘exited the matrix’ you can turn your time and education to any project that you like, that you may be useful for and have no need to charge! Because all of your bills are covered by passive income, you have true free time, plus the stuff that you have learned on your way there is surely valuable to start-up projects all over the world!

I got excited and love the idea of that, to be of use, hopefully, to other peoples projects and be able to invest my time for no cost incurred.. I bet you could find some amazing projects to be a part of!!

Hi…. and welcome…

So, this is the first post on my new blog. I suppose, really, that I should introduce myself and give you a rough low down on what this blog will be about.

My name is Benny. I am 32 and semi-obviously… a bloke. I live in the UK, and work for a living in restaurants.

I have been in the restaurant industry for, on and off, 15 years. 10 of those years with the company that I currently work for. I had an epiphany just before the beginning of this year and decided that enough was enough… Time to design a life for myself that fits better with with where I would like to be in the future. 2009 was going to be ‘my year of change’.

Bizarrely enough, when I was in my early 20′s, I was a bit of an animal, always drunk or high, and would tell my mates that I would be dead by 32 (I think I thought I was going to go out in some rockstar blaze of glory, but here I am with only 7 months of 32 left, and sober… scarily sober). Maybe, I am subconsciously starting a new beginning instead of hanging up my boots, or some herbalist karma bollocks like that…

All I knew at the beginning of the year was that I was going to have to do something different. I quit drinking, apart from on holiday this year, and tried applying for different jobs… The jobhunt lead me nowhere. At least nowhere useful. I can get jobs.. if I get an interview.. but unless it is in the catering industry I would have to start at the bottom again pretty much… Which means a cut in pay…

I turned my head to re-education because tbh that was the only thing I could really change that wouldn’t cost too much. I started to read a lot more.. all realistic self helpish type books, no romantic novels for me!! I became a huge advocate of the quote from Mark Twain ‘I have never let my schooling interfere with my education’.

Anyway, I digress. What I am supposed to be explaining to you is what this blog is going to be about. To put it quite simply, this is going to be a blog about what I am doing and stuff that I have used to get me here. Hopefully pointers and a help to anyone who fancies trying to do the same or similar.

There will more likely be a booklist of books that I think are good, seminars and topic posts, hopefully all kinds of cool info and places to hunt for more.

So, here I am in a hotel room in London. I’m going to be hitting the hay in a second because it is an early start in the morning, 7am, and will be embarking on my first course with the RichDad Education crew over the next 3 days.
