I tried to update the software on my iPhone yesterday only to find it conk out half way through! Then I had to try and restore it to the factory settings… Which meant resigning myself to losing all of the data on it!! But, alas that kept stopping half way through, giving me an error 14…

I took the phone back Carphone Warehouse, to find I was a month out of warranty and the insurance didn’t cover ‘warranty’ faults!! (I still keep meaning to look at the wording in the contract, cos there may be a line in that, due to the phone being out of warranty, the problem is not covered by the warranty, thus making the GeekSquad liable. Who knows… A bit of a longshot tbh). I was then getting quotes in the hundreds to fix it!! Effin Joke!!

Anyway, to cut a long story short… My iTunes then wouldn’t update… So I had to uninstall it… It then wouldn’t reinstall… So I removed all traces of anything Apple!!

Eventually, after much tooing and froing, iTunes reinstalled but alas I was getting the same error when trying to update my iPhone… So, I went hunting…. And came across this page -

I followed the instructions, from the page and the comments on there, and reinstalled the previous software and it worked.. Plus with Apple’s wizardry, the phone updated a previously stored back-up making it appear like the crisis never happened!!

I am over the moon!!

I don’t know if this will be of much use for most of you but I am going to share it anyway.

If you quickly press the main menu button and the power button on the top right shoulder of your iPhone and the same time, your phone will take a picture of your screen, so that you can save an image of whatever you are looking at

Yes, we all know that I adore my iPhone, so I will try not to harp on about it, but what I would like to let you know about is an app that I find really useful. It’s called ‘Things‘ and is essentially just a list builder and ticker-off type of program.

The joy of it is that you can schedule lists, do lists for today or even set up non-time specific lists for projects and tick off the items until your hearts content. Overnight all the done tasks will be deleted and stored in the memory! Not the most technical of apps, but for me, it is possibly the most useful. Only thing is it is a little pricey at £5.99 but worth every penny.

I was chatting to a friend of mine yesterday about mobile phones. OK, I admit it, I was blowing smoke up my iPhones behind, but we ended up chatting about contracts and call rates. He started complaining about Orange and how much they charged him for an 0845 number, which he generally used for calling the bank. He quoted up to £3 a min to call them, I’m not sure if he was exaggerating or not, but that seemed to me to be pretty high.

I asked him if he had his bank card with him, which he didn’t, but what I wanted to do was make him aware of this..

If you look on the back of your bank card, you will usually find the customer services number, often 0845 blahdiblahdiblah. What you want to do here is have a look at the number they want you to call if you are calling from abroad, more often than not, you will find that is a normal national phone number, just with the +44 prefix. So, if you use this number when calling in the UK when on your mobile you will only be charged at a national rate call.. Or the call with be included in your contract’s free minutes….. Simple.

If any if you are like me, you have an iPhone and adore it. I find myself blogging from my phone more than I do my laptop. It’s just so easy!!

If you are into property investing, or looking to go that way, there is a great application that may be useful to you. The application is for the website rightmove.co.uk, which is a UK property search engine so to speak. You will find many estate agents posting their properties for sale and rent on here and is now available for access from your phone!

Great to browse and research when you’re on the train or wherever!

It has the usual search filters but can also pinpoint where you are and give you the properties nearby. Great if you are in a neighbourhood you do not know very well and want to find out about it! Or, if you’re like me you look up your neighbours prices from your living room!!

Could be useful for you so take a look!
