Have just been reading through some of Paul Harrison’s blog, ‘Urban Jungle Survival’. I can’t remember where I got it from, I think a Facebook friend posted it and thought I would take a look. The last time I had a look at the site there was only one post, but fortunately there are a few more now.

‘Urban Jungle Survival’ reminds me of The4thMarketeer as it appears that Paul wants to do similar to me, and bizarrely has been spurred on by ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ too!

Personally I really like the way he writes and wish him all the best! You guys should take a look

I have just sent a copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad for Teens: Money – What You Don’t Learn in School to my lil brother. He is only 15 and I hope he will get something out of it.

He is a smart kid, well he is about 5 inches taller than me so I should really call him a young man. He is also pretty entrepreneuristic too, so I hope it helps him forward.

I have given him a condition that he has to write me one or two paragraphs on what he thinks about the book, so we shall find out!! (I’ll put his thoughts on here if he doesn’t mind)

I have been waning a little in my quest.. Yes, I have been working a lot at the day job, but not really enough to warrant an actual stop in activities outside. I don’t know, it  may have been the change in seasons (nearly always depresses me going into winter) or just a small lack of focus. Either way, I haven’t been doing as much as I could over the last week.

It is bizarre how things and perception can change in a short matter of time. I have been finding it hard to get my head around what I need to do, then out of nowhere comes a conversation, and later on, a text from a friend that puts the motivators back in.

First of all I spoke to my mum on the phone.. She had just been on the first round of the course that I went on, and thoroughly enjoyed it too. We started chatting, talking about our interpretations on all that we have learned in that respect and suddenly my juices were flowing again. The motivation was up, I wanted to start achieving. Just a little bit of exposure to someone who was looking into a similar avenue to me and the game was back on!

I have heard it many times that the people you hang around with can greatly affect your life, so I am going to need to surround myself, even more, with people who want to achieve what I want to achieve. I try to instill energy into people at work about what I am learning but they do not seem to get it nor want to know, which, I will be honest, disappoints me a little. They all have ‘dreams’ as I do, but to me, they are more fantasies because they are not prepared to go after them. I honestly don’t know if I will get exactly where I want to go at this point, but I will keep moving in that direction in whatever way I can.

Straight after the conversation with mum I went to the Post Office and mailed 3 books to her. Two Rich Dad books and a Richard Branson one. Mum was adamant that she should read up on some things about the whole philosophy of Robert Kiyosaki because it was something new to her that she was gripped with in the seminar. I made a point of mailing them straight away, as I didn’t want to stifle her enthusiasm in any way, so the sooner the better!

Later yesterday evening I got a text from my Polish mate Cezar (the one who introduced me to Rich Dad). He had obviously given this web address to his brother, a business man in Poland, also a Rich Dad follower. He said that his brother had some ideas for the4thmarketeer. Normally I would probably get a little defensive about my things, but that was a long time ago. So I replied that I would love to hear them. To be honest it would be great to bounce ideas off someone who, from what I know, is critically committed to what I am. So hopefully Cezar will give him my email address and we can start moving forward! All good stuff.

So, from being lacsidasical to back on the mission in just two conversations, I love it!!

I have been chatting to a friend recently, who is getting fed up with his job, and is interested in what I am up to. I have always harped on about looking for ways out of the ‘Rat Race’ and now he is keen to start learning what I am trying to learn.

So the first thing I do is point him to this site and to the Rich Dad videos because it seems a logical place to start, as that is where I started.

Yesterday I called him to find out how he was getting on and his laptop was broken. So he hadn’t looked. I called him later, just to find out if it was interesting to him because he was going to use his mum’s computer…. Which again he hadn’t.

He subsequently asked me to remind him later on, which I did, for him to have a watch.

When I spoke to him this morning, again no joy.

Just brings me to the realization that here is someone who wants a change in his world, but will probably never find it. He will put off something really easy to do, because it is even easier not to. From what I know in this world, no-one is going to give you anything, you have to go get it. Maybe his want for change is not big enough, but who knows?

If you want change, you have to start now.. Not tomorrow.. Next week etc. We all need to commit ourselves and so far I have found these little changes highly rewarding.

Anyway… Back to work!!

Hi…. and welcome…

So, this is the first post on my new blog. I suppose, really, that I should introduce myself and give you a rough low down on what this blog will be about.

My name is Benny. I am 32 and semi-obviously… a bloke. I live in the UK, and work for a living in restaurants.

I have been in the restaurant industry for, on and off, 15 years. 10 of those years with the company that I currently work for. I had an epiphany just before the beginning of this year and decided that enough was enough… Time to design a life for myself that fits better with with where I would like to be in the future. 2009 was going to be ‘my year of change’.

Bizarrely enough, when I was in my early 20′s, I was a bit of an animal, always drunk or high, and would tell my mates that I would be dead by 32 (I think I thought I was going to go out in some rockstar blaze of glory, but here I am with only 7 months of 32 left, and sober… scarily sober). Maybe, I am subconsciously starting a new beginning instead of hanging up my boots, or some herbalist karma bollocks like that…

All I knew at the beginning of the year was that I was going to have to do something different. I quit drinking, apart from on holiday this year, and tried applying for different jobs… The jobhunt lead me nowhere. At least nowhere useful. I can get jobs.. if I get an interview.. but unless it is in the catering industry I would have to start at the bottom again pretty much… Which means a cut in pay…

I turned my head to re-education because tbh that was the only thing I could really change that wouldn’t cost too much. I started to read a lot more.. all realistic self helpish type books, no romantic novels for me!! I became a huge advocate of the quote from Mark Twain ‘I have never let my schooling interfere with my education’.

Anyway, I digress. What I am supposed to be explaining to you is what this blog is going to be about. To put it quite simply, this is going to be a blog about what I am doing and stuff that I have used to get me here. Hopefully pointers and a help to anyone who fancies trying to do the same or similar.

There will more likely be a booklist of books that I think are good, seminars and topic posts, hopefully all kinds of cool info and places to hunt for more.

So, here I am in a hotel room in London. I’m going to be hitting the hay in a second because it is an early start in the morning, 7am, and will be embarking on my first course with the RichDad Education crew over the next 3 days.
