I was just reading a post by Ray Higdon when I caught something about his post signature that I will admit I clocked on his blog a couple of days ago too.
He doesn’t use it in the same way that one would expect.
The first time I came across something similar was in a tutorial by the guy who made Automatic Article Submitter (who also apparently disappeared somewhere :/) where he suggested to format your ‘resource box’ much like the final paragraph of your article.
Now if you don’t quite know what a post signature is.. I have a whole training on a plugin for WordPress to put one on the bottom of ever post of your blog which you can update centrally. If you have a look it will explain a little about what I am on about How to add a blog signature to all of your posts.
But what I would like to do with this post is give you 3 of the cheekiest little ideas I have come across to get your reader engaged.
Post Signature Idea 1 – Make it a content continuation
I have kinda already given the game away about this one. What I suggest to do is to make the signature appear like it belongs in your article’s content, that way you can have the reader ead it without prejudging.
I don’t know about you but I generally gloss over an obvious post signature and don’t really give it the time of day, which if it belongs to you, means that I for one am not checking out, one or more of your calls to action.
Post Signature Idea 2 – Insert a call to action
Make sure there is a call to action in your signature. The aim of the game is to get people in to your funnel or at least interested about what you do/who you are a little more. If you do not tell them where to find out more about the information that they may be looking for or what you think will help them in the future, you’re not being the guy that you need to be.
This is really quite good in the fact that, as I have recently noticed in some of my earlier blog posts is that I am missing specific calls to action within the content. By using my post signature I can change all of that in one go and have places, info and training for people to consume readily available to them at the end of the article.
Post Signature Idea 3 – Use it as you constantly updated notice board
In this way, Ray is using his post signature really well. He is leading people to the most current things that he is doing. As a post signature is a box that you can update that will change globally over your blog you should be looking to keep it as up to date as possible with any new info you have, courses, trainings, videos, webinars, you name it.
What better way to engage with your readers (especially if they have just read an older post) than to give them the up to date scoop on what you are up to.
