How to add a Favicon using a Gravatar in WordPress

gravatar wordpress faviconThere are some times that you just want your site to look cooler, adding a Favicon is one way to do it… The easy way to do that is to use a Gravatar with WordPress.

Put simply, a Favicon is the little picture placed next to your site’s name on the page tab in your browser. Sometimes they appear in the address bar too. All in all they make your site look much more professional.

How to add a Favicon using a Gravatar in WordPress

Firstly, to generate you Gravatar you will need an image file. If you can, try to make the image as square as possible as Gravatars are inherently square. Obviously a company logo is a great place to start but you really can use anything that you like in order to do this….

Check out the video below for an easy guide into what we’re gonna do…

How to add a Favicon using a Gravatar in WordPress

Quite simply, get your image linked up to your email address (preferably the most commonly used email that corresponds to the site that you are going to put your favicon on) by going to Gravatar.com.

(I’m gonna hazard a guess that you can’t do this using WordPress.com, you might be able to but I have the self hosted version so can only speak for that)

Once linked and cropped, simply put the email address into the box at the bottom of the general settings page in your WordPress back office.

Give it some time for the image to propagate through the ether and tadaa! One cool picture linked to your website name.

V Cool.
