I can’t stop thinking about this everytime I go on to Facebook to have a mosey and see what’s up…
… and everytime I get the same thing happening.
Begging the question…
Is it me or has Facebook become the ‘push’ fest we hoped that it wouldn’t?
Try this out…
Have a look at how many notifications you’re getting per day about something that doesn’t interest you?
I have turned off all of the notifications on any groups that I am in and blocked all of the apps that people keep promoting to me (admittedly, I don’t think half of the people realise that’s what they are doing anyway), but still I have a list of allsorts that I need to ignore in order to get on with what I am doing.
It really feels like a constant barrage…
Sound familiar?
Being added to groups that you are not interested in without your consent is VERY much a tedious one…
Or, getting sent messages with a direct pitch off the bat.
To steal the license of a mentor of mine…
Marketing is like dating…
Chicks like to be wine, dined and romanced… Stop trying to close on the first date like a 19 year old douche.
I fear that as this grows… and I’m guessing that I have a particuarly bad case of it on FB, it will turn people away searching for new things.
Facebook will slowly become less of the promised land and more of the wasteland.
… and the marketers will be to blame, as they often are.
So, if you are going to send something to someone, be it an event invite, group invite, message or app request please make it relevant to the individual you are sending it to..
… Even better, get to the point where the individual is expecting it from a conversation that you have had.
Love ya
