Right, first off, let’s get things straight. I’m British so don’t do the warm fuzzy, luvvy duvvy stuff very well at all… We are all ‘stiff upper lip’ over here but I would really like to take some time out to show my appreciation and to make light of how I see (ok, not quite, but you’ll catch the drift) things around me.
I firmly believe that we have all been brought up to think that we need to be out for ourselves, ‘it’s a dog eat dog world’, ‘it’s all about the Benjamins’, ‘take what you can get’ kinda philosophies. Yes, at school we are taught ‘love thy neighbour’ etc, but actions always speak louder than words, and what we see as a kid is not how we are told it should be. The news is full of wars and death; ‘The world is a dangerous place’ is instilled in us at a very young age.
Now, I am probably not going to win any friends here, because I know a lot of people who are still in the shoes that I was in, and I certainly don’t want to sound ‘holier than thou’, cos believe me I’m not lol. But, and this is only my opinion, the general culture of western society these days, to me, IS like a zombie apocalypse.
The cycle of work, go out and blow off steam, work, go out, work, watch TV is mundane and lifeless, but a good 80% of the population do that day in and day out. When you ask someone what they want to do with their life, they reply with a job that they think that they could bear to put up with for the next 50 years. The societal conditioning is rife.. Open up your minds guys, there really is a whole world of possibilities out there!
Here’s the mushy bit…
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part in getting me this far (I still have a long way to go), but without you guys I would not have come even close to here.
All of the positive people that I have met, especially online, really have shaped me over the last few years, some even have no idea too lol
The online neworking community is full of selfless, helpful individuals and I salute all of you.
Vive la Resistance!
